 1.      Care Hope Project

Support to the war victims in Northern Uganda through Physical Rehabilitation, Psychosocial Support and Economic Empowerment.

A total of 1176 war victims received physical rehabilitation services, psychosocial services and were economically empowered.

100 war victims received medical rehabilitation services. The medical rehabilitation services were through corrective surgeries (orthopedic and plastic surgeries). These services were provided by FRDC directly while others through referrals at Ayira medical services and CoRSU rehabilitation medical Hospital.

580 War victims received psychosocial support from the sub counties of Abako, Adwari and Okwang in Lango Sub-region. Gulu, Amuru, Kitgum, and Adjumani received surgeries and medical support.

2. ZEST 4 KIDS:  Support to children with disabilities

Rehabilitated 6 (4female 2male) children with physical disabilities through corrective surgery.

CHALLENGES:

The Centre lacks a centralized information system (database) for the organization’s effective management. General lack of proper understanding of organizational policies by the staff.

Being a unique rehabilitation Centre in the Lango sub-region, FRDC reaches beyond the sub-region to include Gulu, Pader, Kitgum and Adjumani. This exerts significant pressure on its limited resources.

Although the Centre has qualified staff, there is still a need for capacity building, especially in areas of resource mobilization and financial management.

The other challenge is the transport problem. The Centre has only one and old double cabin pick-up truck. Thus, the Centre often must hire transport, which exerts further pressure on its limited finances.

PROPOSED FUTURE PLANS.

Strengthening vocational training under the Social Works Department – this would require additional computers and sewing machines.

Expanding and providing a wide range of community-based rehabilitation services to the people in Northern Uganda through staff training and community mobilization.

Strengthening the Physiotherapy and Medical Departments.

Building a swimming pool at the Centre for hydrotherapy treatment for children with disabilities. Setting up an orthopaedic workshop for making simple equipment for people with disabilities. Opening a Branch Centre in the new Alebtong District.
